When I created my first website ever (it was 2015, if I’m not wrong), I didn’t know a lot about websites: for me, there wasn’t really a difference between host, domain, plug-in, and so on.
I just decided I wanted to play around and see if I could learn something new.
So, since I recently spoke with some friends of mine that are starting their own business, I decided to make some clarity around creating a website. Now, let’s say you want to set up your own website, you will need: –a hosting platform –a domain name You can purchase your domain name (which is the actual name of your shop, company or whatever you like, for example my domain name is www.virtualalessia.com, and when you buy the domain name you can choose to have .it, .com, .net and so on) from many different vendors: Namecheap, GoDaddy, etc.
Once you got the domain name, you need to get the “place” where you will build your website, and that is exactly what I want to tell you about today.
Or better, I want to share with you the awesome experience I have with SiteGround.
The hosting platform
I tried several different hosting platforms for my websites, and I can tell you that, in my experience, only one that provided me with something invaluable: an excellent customer service. SiteGround is the hosting platform I love and have been using for years and the main reason, yes, it’s because of the customer service. When you are at the beginning and you aren’t really sure about what you are doing, having your doubts answered in 5 minutes (more on this later) is such a big relief. When you call a hosting platform’s customer service (which I did a couple of times) the majority of them have at least ten minutes wait time, whereas SiteGround answers immediately.
Think that they even have national phone lines, so when I had to call from Italy, I didn’t call to a US number, I called to an Italian one! Which is awesome, because if you need live support, at least you don’t get an insanely huge phone bill! When you needed some help and decide to contact the amazing guys of SiteGround, you can also use the chat.
The chat customer service doesn’t come as a feature from every hosting platform, so this is a really important point I want to highlight. From the moment you send your first message with your fears and doubts until the issue is solved, SiteGround takes an average of 5 minutes. It means that in five minutes you’ve solved your problem. And you don’t even need to wait 10 minutes before someone answers: all the times (quite many, especially at the beginning) I got in touch with the customer service, I have someone answering pretty much immediately!
It happened as well that my problem couldn’t be solved by the guy on the other side of the screen, so I needed to open a ticket: I was expecting an answer within 24 hours, I think it’s quite reasonable, especially when you have tried everything and nothing seems to work.
Surprise surprise, I got and answer back in 10-15 minutes and from then, my issue was solved in about half an hour.
Of course, there are other things to consider, for example safety and speed, but SiteGround has always exceeded my expectations. I think since I have had my website hosted in SiteGround, my site has never been down, whereas, I can tell you, it happened at least once every month or two with another platform.
This was my experience as SiteGround‘s client. As you can see I’m a really proud user and I have always advised anyone to use it.
So if you are in need of hosting platform (whatever you want to use, whether is WordPress or Joomla, for example) just go with it and you won’t regret it.
I’m absolutely the number 1 supporter of these guys!
